About Jot Copywriting

Who am I?

Hi – I’m Linda Suttie – Copywriter and owner of Jot Copywriting.

Based in a home office on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula my copywriting takes place in arguably one of the most stunning parts of Australia – the gorgeous seaside village of Mt Martha.  I am passionate about what I do and the people I work for – so when you engage me to undertake a project you can be sure you’re getting inspired, quality copywriting.

With an Advanced Diploma in Freelance Journalism and Certificates in Public Relations I’ve worked as a freelance copywriter and creative consultant since 1999 for numerous clients across a wide range of industries. So as one of my customers you’ll know you’re getting the benefit of a wealth of experience.  The Jot Copywriting portfolio includes material written in some cases through agencies for companies including Whirlpool and  KRAFT, and directly for clients including Chisholm Institute of TAFE and The John Holland Group.

Over the years I have combined my writing and creative skills to develop numerous projects encompassing varied styles, tones and audiences.  That means I can help you create an entire concept or theme around any sales, marketing or promotional project.

Prior to starting Jot Copywriting I worked as a Public Relations Consultant in a large Private Hospital where I wrote a health column for local print media as well as staff and corporate newsletters, advertisements and various promotional communications.

What do I do?

Put simply – I write the words.  Words for websites, brochures, advertisements, newsletters – in fact I write all kinds of promotional material. But it’s no secret that it’s the combination of images, words and clever ideas that provide the most impact.

And it’s the creative process that really makes what I do so satisfying.  Over the years I have worked with clients to get to know their product or service so that the end result is a relevant and creative piece of promotional material that truly reflects their business but most importantly really talks to their target market.

So whether you need copy from scratch or existing copy reviewed and edited, I will work with you, your graphic designer, creative director and relevant personnel to produce the right vehicle for your communication.  I’m diligent with a brief, relentless in my research, flexible, adaptable and creative.  So as you can see – as a copywriter I’m made of the write stuff!

Small to Medium Businesses – Do you have the right tools to build your business?

Every business needs a package of standard promotional tool kit.  It should include a brochure, an introductory letter and a website.  If you don’t have this basic promotional tool kit, you could be missing out on sales. So call me today for a free no obligation audit of your existing or prospective promotional kit.

How do I work?

The first step is an obligation free consultation.  Quite simply we talk (either face to face, over the phone or by email) about your needs.  We discuss your business, what you want as far as marketing and promotional material and how I can help you develop that.  I can give you an idea of my rates and an estimate of what you might be looking at as far as cost.

If you think I can help you and you want to take that extra step I will go ahead and supply a formal quotation with a copy of my terms and conditions which may require another discussion so that I can get as much detail as I can. In this way your quote will be as accurate as possible – no nasty surprises for either of us.

Once you accept the quote I ask for 50% of the fee before I start so that I know you’re committed to the project.  When this is done I will need a formal brief from you.  Again this can be done one on one, email or phone.  In this brief we discuss target markets, tone and style amongst other issues.

I can then give you an estimate on when the first draft will be ready – in most cases this will be about two weeks.  My fee will include one full round of edits.  Any major editing or key changes from the original brief will incur an extra cost.  If no editing is required that’s great for everyone however the cost remains as quoted.

When you have read the draft, made any changes and are happy with the final draft I will ask you to send written approval.  On receipt of your written approval I will forward an invoice which I ask is paid within 14 days.

So in a nutshell – here’ the process:-

  • Have a face to face, phone or email discussion
  • Discuss your needs, my rates and an estimate.
  • Receive formal quote and copy of terms and conditions.
  • Approve quote and pay 50% of fee
  • Receive first draft
  • Make changes, additions, suggestions if required.
  • Receive second draft if required (extra editing will cost more)
  • Approve copy in writing
  • Receive invoice and forward payment within 14 days.
